DEAKIN WHITE CUP – BEDS, HERTS AND BUCKS

Skew Bridge have their Deakin White Cup future in their own hands after a comfortable 3-0 win against FC Victoria. Two goals from Patrick Sheehy and one from Charlie Smith means if they avoid defeat in their final group game against Finestay next month, they’ll be in the hat for the last 8.

DIVISION ONE

League leaders Welwyn Garden United kept their 100% record intact but were made to work hard for it against The Bull. Two early goals from Tom Mardle put the home side in full control, but with 10-mins left of the half, some neat footwork from Lui Neill in the penalty area saw him clipped by a defender resulting in a penalty for The Bull. Neill stepped up and sent the keeper the wrong way for 2-1 at half time. The Bull’s battling mentality kept them in the game and despite the better chances falling to the home side, the fourth goal would be vital. United had the ball in the net, but it was ruled out and The Bull went close with a header. The home side had to play the last 7-minutes with 9-men after two sin bins, but The Bull couldn’t capitalise and the game finished 2-1 to Welwyn.

Striker Andy Stevenson didn’t take long to get off the mark for the season on his first appearance of the season. There were just 3-minutes on the clock when he put Brookmans Park 1-0 against bottom side Saints. Despite dominating possession, Park couldn’t capitalise and it took them until late in the game to add to their tally, but they did, twice, through Callum Bayliss and leading marksmen Adam Page for a 3-0 win.

A hat-trick from Ollie Lacey and one from Nick Urwin gave Harpenden Colts OB all 3 points against Wheathampstead Wanderers.

DIVISION TWO

Oceans XI hit 6 past Harpenden Colts OB Reserves. James Carter leading the way with a brace, plus singles from Cameron Butterworth, Daniel Campfield, Harry Fennel and Kairan Cox. With John Woodward and Markus Nicolaisen-Turner in reply for Colts.

Welwyn Warriors 100% record came to an end at home in the Welwyn/ Hatfield Derby against Hatfield Seniors. Steve Mee scoring for the home side, Charlie Lloyd and Matt Noot for Seniors.

DIVISION THREE

BWSC will be kicking themselves for letting their first half lead slip against Welwyn Warriors

Reserves. Jack Lumsden gave them the lead when he found himself unmarked and tapped home after Warriors failed to deal with a corner. Lumsden then doubled his and BWSC’s tally after some horrific defending from a corner. Just before half time, Warriors pulled one back, when Aaron Dove low strike made it 2-1. But it was short lived, when Lumsden completed his hattrick just 2-minutes into the 2nd half when he chipped the Warriors keeper after some nice build up play by his teammates. But it was all downhill for BWSC from here. Germaine Spence’s deflected shot wrong footed the keeper for 3-2. It was soon 3-3 after a good break from Warriors saw Alex Dibden finish neatly with a lob from outside the area. Then Warriors took the lead, Spence’s free kick found Josh Chater in acres of space to header home. Soon it was then 5-3 to Warriors, Spence involved yet again when another one of his free kicks was met by Tim Chesworth. Ironically, the drama wasn’t over yet, with BWSC being awarded a penalty and a lifeline to get back into the game, however the spot kick was saved by Andrew Spence.

Jack Gage thought he’d gave Phoenix Reserves all 3-points when he put them 1 up late on. But a 92nd minute equaliser from Steven Orchard rescued a point for TNF.

In a top of the table clash, Herts Vets gave Strafford Arms Reserves their first defeat of the season, coming out on top 5-4.

Wrestlers and Alban Dynamo drew 3-3. Wrestlers goals coming from Charley Winnett x2 and Billy Read. Sean Oliver, Brodie Pearce Carrington and Mark Read for Dynamo.

DIVISION FOUR

Alban Dynamo Reserves beat MNFC 4-3.

Three goals from Stephen Maitland and one a piece for Hassan Bhandari and Darren Patterson kept Mermaid Reserves top of the league with a 5-2 win against Hatfield Seniors Reserves.

Brookmans Park Reserves were in excellent form against Cub FC and gave their opposition little chance to settle with a thumping 10-0 win. Leading scorer Sam Kingsley and Ronan Nevin netting hat-tricks and singles from Andy Peet, Bobbie Jay, Mike Donkin and Skrdlik Jiri.

DIVISION FIVE

Two Darren Cavaree goals were cancelled out by Ashleigh Robinson and Cameron Ferguson as Royston Reserves and Phoenix A shared the points in a 2-2 draw.

Leaders Rose and Crown Mosquito comfortably overcome St.Albans Warriors 7-2 at Napsbury.

HERTS ADVERTISER JUNIOR CUP

Hadham Rovers needed penalties to overcome Division 5 side London Colney United after a 2-2 draw after 90 minutes.

HERTS ADVERTISER INTERMEDIATE CUP

Royston Rangers beat St.Albans Eagles 4-3. Yassin Abdelkafi and Adam Woodcock amongst the goals for Eagles, with Jack Messam, Tom Perry and a brace from substitute Kelvin Chirandure enough to put Royston in the hat for round 2.

Division 2 side Excel pulled off a shock against Premier Division opponents Hilltop winning 4-3. Toby Grisenthwaite, Jack Dallimore and Harrison Oronsaye amongst the goals for Excel.
